Swimming with the G-friend

Yesterday afternoon Amy and I swam together. Last time we swam together she was with another friend in her lane so I was in my own lane. We shared a lane this time. One of the things I have learned about Amy is that sometimes she gets a "little" competitive. I noticed it the first time we ran together a while back, whenever I pulled just a hair ahead she would catch up to stay as even as possible or just a foot stroke ahead. I actually find it all kind of funny.

So in the pool she knows she is not going to beat me but it was great to see her push herself harder to keep up. And I gotta say she did a really good job. Ok, yes, I lapped her once but she kept pushing and when we got done with the workout she told me she thought it was good for her to swim with me because she pushes harder. I was happy to hear that because I want her to get better and feel like she is faster come race day because I know that would make her happy when she crosses the finish line.

i regularly swim in the same lane as a friend of mine and we're very evenly paced. we always start a fast set with - ok, we'll just take it slow, but when we're swimming and i see her right next to me, i can't help but speed up - and she does too. it definitely makes for some fun in the pool. tell amy i said good job hanging in there!!

Thanks for the encouragement Momo. It was actually a lot of fun swimming with Brian yesterday. It reminded me what my training should look like.
